Organizers announce the meeting of the Exxon Valdez Oil Spill Trustee
Council. The meeting will convene Wednesday, 11 January 2017 at 10:00
a.m. AST. This meeting will be available via teleconference or in-person
in the Dr. Glenn A. Olds Hall Conference room on the United States
Geological Survey (USGS) Alaska Pacific University (APU) campus, 4210
University Avenue, in Anchorage, Alaska.
Topics on the agenda for this meeting include the fiscal year (FY) 2017
Draft Work Plan, a period of public comment, an Executive Director
report, and project information reports.

47th International Arctic Workshop
23-25 March 2017
Buffalo, New York
Organizers of the 47th International Arctic Workshop announce a call for
abstracts. This workshop will convene 23-25 March 2017 in Buffalo, New
York.
The theme of this workshop is, "Polar Climate and Sea Level: Past,
Present, and Future" Within this theme there will be sub-themes on topics
ranging from The Greenland Ice Sheet, to Hazards of Polar Change, to the
Climate History of Baffin Bay.
The Arctic Workshop is open to anyone interested in high latitude
environments, including those of the past, present, and future. Previous
workshops have included presentations on Arctic and Antarctic climate,
atmospheric chemistry, environmental geochemistry, paleoenvironment,
glacial geology, archeology, geomorphology, hydrology, glaciology,
soils, ecology, oceanography, Quaternary history, and more.
All topics are welcome.
Abstract submission deadline: 22 February 2017.

Regional Sea Level Changes and Coastal Impacts Conference

The World Climate Research Program (WCRP), jointly with the
Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of the United Nations
Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), announces a
call for abstracts for the Regional Sea Level Changes and Coastal
Impacts Conference. This conference will convene 10-14 July 2017 at
Columbia University in New York, New York.
This conference will address the existing challenges in describing and
predicting regional sea level changes and quantifying the intrinsic
uncertainties. The conference will serve as a basis for a new assessment
of the state of regional sea level research and will serve as input to
the next Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) assessment.
The structure of the conference will consist of plenary sessions
followed by extensive poster sessions. In the evenings, there will be
"think-tanks" focusing on new science frontiers and activities.
Conference registration opens 15 March 2017.
Abstract submission deadline: 15 February 2017.

Blue Planet Symposium

Organizers announce the 3rd Blue Planet Symposium. This symposium will
convene 31 May-2 June 2017 at the conference center of the National
Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)'s Center for Weather
and Climate Prediction in College Park, Maryland.
Blue Planet is an initiative of the Group of Earth Observations (GEO).
GEO aims to address global challenges and improve decision making by
coordinating and developing Earth observation efforts among
participating governments and organizations. The overall goal of Blue
Planet Initiative is to ensure the sustained development and use of
ocean and coastal observations for the benefit of society. Blue Planet
is a network of networks made up of participants from a variety of
existing international organizations, regional organizations, national
institutes, universities, government agencies, project groups, and other
interested parties.
The symposium will serve as a forum for discussion of societal
information needs resulting from the important role the oceans play in
Earth's life-support system and the challenge of minimizing the impacts
of human activities on the oceans while utilizing the resources of the
oceans to meet our needs. The symposium will also be a platform for the
participating communities to exchange information on their activities
and identify related potential pilot and prototype projects to focus on
in the coming years.
The symposium will address four subthemes:
- The changing oceans;
- Threats from pollution, warming, and acidification;
- Processes and life at the interfaces with the oceans; and
- Sustainable use of ocean resources.
The symposium is open to scientists, researchers, and students from
academia, industry, government, users of ocean observation data and
information, and other stakeholders engaged in monitoring,
understanding, and managing the oceans.
Registration for the 3rd Blue Planet Symposium will open in January
2017.
