The Climate and Global Dynamics (CGD) Laboratory at the National Center
for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) announces a call for applications for
the position of Sea Ice Associate Scientist with their Oceanography
Section. This full-time, permanent position comes with full-year base
salary support and is located in Boulder, Colorado.

The primary function of this position will be to serve as a community
liaison for the Community Earth System Model (CESM) Polar Climate
Working Group (PCWG). The successful candidate will actively participate
in a new sea ice model consortium, provide support for university
community scientists to incorporate new developments into the CESM3 sea
ice model, contribute to CESM project software engineering activities,
and contribute to analysis of polar climate related aspects of model
simulations.

The successful candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in oceanography,
atmospheric science, applied mathematics, computational science,
engineering, or related physical science with experience equivalent to
that of Associate Scientist I, a Masters or PhD is preferred.

Desired skills include:

  • Advanced understanding of numerical modeling for geophysical
    applications;
  • Strong knowledge of software engineering;
  • Strong programming skills;
  • Advanced knowledge of data analysis software such as NCL, IDL, Matlab,
    or Ferret;
  • Effective oral and written communication skills; and
  • Ability to effectively collaborate and communicate with external
    collaborators.

This position will be filled at the Associate Scientist II level.

The Physical Oceanography Department at the Woods Hole Oceanographic
Institution (WHOI) announces a call for applications for the position of
tenure track Research Scientist. This full-time position will be located
in Woods Hole, Massachusetts.

The successful candidate will join a collaborative group of scientists
addressing a wide range of fundamental problems and interdisciplinary
research questions in ocean and climate dynamics using observations,
modeling, theory, and laboratory experiments. Technical support
personnel facilitate the use of a broad mix of traditional and
innovative instruments and observational techniques to make measurements
on all scales, from microstructure up to global, and in all ocean
domains including open-ocean and coastal regions at polar, temperate,
and tropical latitudes.

Scientific staff members are expected to develop independent, externally
funded, and internationally recognized research programs with the option
of advising graduate students and teaching courses through the
Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)/WHOI Joint Program in
Oceanography and Oceanographic Engineering.

The successful candidate will have expertise in the areas of:

  • Coastal dynamics,
  • High-latitude processes,
  • Decadal-scale climate variability, and
  • Air-sea interaction.

The Department seeks applicants with a balance of observational,
modeling, and theoretical approaches as well as interdisciplinary
scientists with interests in the interplay between ocean dynamics and
biological or geochemical processes, or in the interaction of the ocean
with the atmosphere, the land, and the cryosphere.

Applicants should have a doctoral degree, postdoctoral experience, and a
strong publication record.

describes research interests, the names and contact information for four
references, and copies of up to three relevant publications.

Aarhus University announces a call for applications for the position of
Professor in Arctic Biogeochemistry. This permanent position is located
in Roskilde, Denmark.

Aarhus University is seeking a researcher with experience in
biogeochemistry and carbon exchange within and across terrestrial,
limnic, and marine ecosystems in Arctic regions. This position is
expected to work with, strengthen, and expand the existing research
groups within the Section of Arctic Ecosystem Ecology and the Arctic
Research Center (ARC), where data from the Greenland Ecosystem
Monitoring (GEM) are central. Strong collaboration skills are required
in relation to the research in GEM, where a leading role among both
universities and more politically-based organizations are expected.

The successful candidate will have a background in physical geography,
biology, or similar field as a base for an international career with an
extensive international network. Applicants should have a proven
innovative research approach in the laboratory and field as well as a
documented track record of attracting substantial research funding. The
successful candidate will demonstrate scientific leadership, have
experience in supervising postdocs and PhD students, and will be
expected to participate in course activities at undergraduate and
graduate levels.

Research activities will be evaluated in relation to actual research
time. Applicants are encouraged to specify periods of leave without
research activities. These time periods will be subtracted from the span
of the scientific career during the evaluation of scientific
productivity.
