Organizers announce a call for abstracts for Panel Session 20.13
"Pulling Together - Knowledge for Sustainability in Northern Coastal
Communities" at the 9th International Congress on Arctic Social Sciences
(ICASS IX) conference. ICASS IX will convene 8-12 June 2017 in Umea,
Sweden.

This session will consider challenges of "pulling together" of adequate
information, as well as the cultural, social, and institutional
challenges of "pulling together" within communities, relevant agencies,
and relevant research-support partners to enhance local knowledge and
decision-support capacity in the Arctic. The panel forum aims to share
experience of innovative approaches to address community sustainability
priorities. It will address questions including:

  • How do we find common ground and pull together to achieve solutions
    for enhanced well-being and resilience?
  • Do we have examples of approaches that really work and of successful
collaborative strategies to move toward brighter futures in Arctic
    communities?
  • What social and institutional factors enable community ownership,
successful collaboration, and a coherent approach?
  • Can we increase adaptive capacity by combining various kinds of
expertise and knowledge in community-led partnerships?

This session is sponsored by Future Earth Coasts, the Circum-Arctic
Coastal Communities Knowledge Network (CACCON), and the Canadian Network
of Centers of Excellence on Marine Environmental Observations,
Prediction, and Response (MEOPAR).

Abstract deadline for this session: Friday, 16 December 2016.
