The U.S. Arctic Research Commission (USARC) released its biennial
"Report on the Goals and Objectives for Arctic Research” for 2017-2018 on
Thursday, 15 December during the 2016 American Geophysical Union Fall
Meeting in San Francisco, California.

Arctic research plays a key role in addressing fundamental scientific
issues and in helping the nation meet its needs, aspirations, and
responsibilities as an Arctic nation. To this end, the USARC delivers a
biennial report to the President and Congress outlining recommended
scientific research goals and objectives for the Arctic.

This report includes discussion of the following:

Goal 1. Observe, Understand, and Predict Arctic Environmental Change
Goal 2. Improve Arctic Human Health
Goal 3. Transform Arctic Energy
Goal 4. Advance the Arctic "Built Environment"
Goal 5. Explore Arctic Cultures and Community Resilience
Goal 6. Enhance International Scientific Cooperation in the Arctic

The report also includes discussion of emerging topics in Arctic
research and results from the U.S. Chairmanship of the Arctic Council.
