Organizers announce a call for registration for the Circum-Arctic Flux
Workshop. This workshop is hosted by the Pan-Eurasion Experiment (PEEX)
of the University of Helsinki and will be held 6-9 February 2017 in
Hyytaila, Finland.
The workshop is open to all scientists interested in detailed
observations of energetic, hydrological and chemical fluxes at the
surface-atmosphere interface and how these may be used to understand and
model the Arctic climate system. The workshop themes will be related to
biogeochemistry, surface energy balance, atmospheric sciences,
permafrost, hydrology, modeling, and remote sensing to help coordinate
and synthesize polar flux data and models as an integrated system of
energy, moisture, and chemical exchange.
English will be the official language of the workshop.

Arctic Science Summit Week 2017 Conference

Organizers announce a call for abstracts for the Arctic Science Summit
Week 2017 Conference. This conference will convene 31 March - 7 April
2017 in Prague, Czech Republic.
The conference will be split into two meetings. The business meeting
will take place 31 March -2 April 2017 and the science meeting will
occur 4-7 April 2017. Participants can apply for each meeting separately
or together, if attending both portions of the conference.
The Arctic Science Summit Week (ASSW) is an annual meeting of national
and international organizations focused on Arctic research and
exploitation, which include academia, government agencies, local
communities, industry, non-governmental organizations, and others.
Participants that would like to organize a side event must contact
conference organizers no later than 17 February 2016.

9th International Congress of Arctic Social Sciences

The International Arctic Social Science Association (IASSA) announces a
call for poster and paper abstract submissions to the 9th International
Congress of Arctic Social Sciences Conference (ICASS IX) entitled
"People and Places." The conference will convene 8-12 June 2017 in Umea,
Sweden.
This conference will address challenges to people and places in the
Arctic, including climate change, industrial extraction, pollution,
globalization, migration, food and water insecurity, and widening
socio-economic gaps. Participants will discuss variances across the
Arctic region in terms of sustainability, political systems, demography,
infrastructures, histories, languages, legal systems, land and water
resources, and public health.
Organizers may provide some travel funding to students, early career
researchers, Indigenous participants, participants from Russia, and
those with limited means to attend. Participants applying for travel
funding must indicate so on the abstract registration form.
Indigenous peoples, northern residents, decision-makers, politicians,
and academics are encouraged to participate.
Abstract submissions for papers and posters must include the author's
name and contact details, title of the paper or poster, and a 150-word
(maximum) abstract.
Conference registration requires IASSA membership.
Abstract submission deadline: 16 December 2016.
