The Inuit Circumpolar Council (ICC)-Alaska announces a call for
applications for the position of Cultural Sustainability Advisor based
in Anchorage, Alaska.

The successful candidate will work to implement organizational
objectives and engage in activities related to sustaining Inuit culture
and society, promoting adaptation strategies for sustainable Inuit
communities, and increasing an understanding of the human dimension
within the Arctic.

Duties of the Cultural Sustainability Advisor include, but are not
limited to:

  • Developing and working with leadership to implement a plan for
    engagement in community sustainability and adaptation activities in the
    Arctic Council and other forums of interest to Alaskan Inuit;
  • Attend sustainable development working group (SDWG) meetings and advise
    leadership on activities;
  • Assist in planning for Inuit Wildlife Summit, including fundraising
    efforts;
  • Work with the executive director to develop funding plans to achieve
    program objectives;
  • Lead efforts in research and grant writing to meet objectives;
  • Manage overall program, including implementation of program
    objectives, providing grant support, and monitoring program budget; and
  • Provide quarterly progress report to ICC-Alaska.

The Government of Canada is seeking to fill two Polar Knowledge Canada
(Canadian High Arctic Research Station) Board of Director positions:
Vice-Chairperson of the Board of Directors and a Member of the Board of
Directors. These positions are part-time and require travel to Cambridge
Bay, Nunavut for at least one board meeting each year.

Education and experience requirements for both positions include, but
are not limited to:

  • A degree from a recognized university in a relevant field of study or
    an acceptable combination of education, job related training, and/or
    experience;
  • Experience serving as a member or chairperson of a board of directors,
    preferably in a public sector organization and/or a large private sector
    organization;
  • Experience in strategic planning and managing organizational change to
    promote improved governance and performance;
  • Experience in developing and maintaining effective working
    relationships with senior officials from different levels of government
    and diverse stakeholders;
  • Experience working with indigenous peoples and/or indigenous
    communities and recognizing the importance of traditional knowledge in
    advancing Arctic and polar research;
  • Experience working with northern people and organizations of Canada's
    Arctic would be considered an asset;
  • Experience working on northern and/or polar issues;
  • Experience working with international organizations and/or with
    northern people and organizations of Canada's Arctic is an asset; and
  • Experience in Arctic and/or polar science research (western,
    traditional, or local knowledge) would be an asset.

The Government of Canada will consider bilingual proficiency and
diversity in assessing candidates for these positions. Applicants are

they are able to dedicate approximately 20 days for board meetings,
including travel and preparation, and are willing to travel to Cambridge
Bay, Nunavut, for at least one of the Board's meetings each year. Per
diem is available for both positions.
