The University of Tromso (UiT) announces 2 PhD positions and 2
Postdoctoral Fellowship Positions in Arctic marine ecology,
biogeochemistry and/or biological modeling. The PhD positions will have
a fixed term of 4 years and Postdoctoral Fellow positions will have a
fixed term of 3 years. These positions are located within the Faculty of
Biosciences, Fisheries and Economics at the University of Tromso in
Tromso, Norway.

Applicants for the PhD positions are expected to develop projects
related to biogeochemical processes in the sea ice-water, and/or
water-seafloor interface regions. Topics may potentially include (but
are not limited to) studies of biodiversity, biomass, productivity,
boundary layer conditions and transport rates, vertical flux, particle
characteristics, food web markers, and biogeochemical modeling.

For more information on the PhD positions, go to:

Candidates for the 2 Postdoctoral Fellowship positions will have the
opportunity to conduct research related to production and/or other
aspects of ecosystem functioning in Arctic regions which are
characterized by seasonal ice cover. The work can be based on field
observations, experiments, and/or ecosystem modeling, and involve new
technologies, with a research focus on the ecological coupling between
sea ice, pelagic and/or benthic realms.

For more information on the Postdoctoral Fellowships, go to:
http://tinyurl.com/postdoctoral-Arctic-Marine.

The geographic area of interest for all positions is the pan-Arctic
domain with a starting point in the European Arctic (northern Barents
Sea). The 2 postdoctoral fellows and 2 PhD student positions will be
important contributors to the research and development team of the new
Arctic Seasonal Sea Ice Zone Ecology (Arctic SIZE) project. Arctic SIZE
aims to contribute to a holistic and integrated understanding of
production, biogeochemistry and ecology in Arctic seasonal sea ice
zones. Field work under harsh Arctic conditions will be required as well
as potentially short research visits with international collaborators.

Application Deadline: 1 September 2016.
