The Sea Ice Prediction Network (SIPN) announces the call for
contributions for the 2016 Sea Ice Outlook June report (based on May
data).

The Sea Ice Outlook provides an open process for those interested in
Arctic sea ice to share ideas. The monthly reports contain a variety of
perspectives—from advanced numerical models to qualitative perspectives
from citizen scientists. A post-season report will provide an in-depth
analysis of factors driving sea ice this summer as well as explore the
scientific methods for predicting seasonal conditions.

Pan-Arctic and Alaska Regional Outlooks and gridded fields will be
accepted for the 2016 June Outlook. We particularly encourage
submissions for the Alaska region (i.e., Bering, Chukchi, and Beaufort
seas). Submissions that include spatial forecast maps are also
encouraged. Detailed guidelines for contributions are available online.
This year, in addition to a short executive summary and summary of
methods, information about datasets used for submissions is required.

All past contributors and new participants are encouraged to submit
Outlooks this year. Contributors should review the guidelines
for detailed instructions and templates for submissions including:

  • Core requirements for pan-Arctic contributions,
  • An Alaskan regional outlook, and
  • Figures and gridded data for regional contributions.

Detailed submission guidelines for contributions are available at:
https://www.arcus.org/sipn/sea-ice-outlook/2016/june/call.

All submissions should be sent to: sio2016 [at] arcus.org.

Submission deadline: 6:00 p.m. (AKDT) on Monday, 13 June 2016 (firm).
Contributions received after the deadline will be posted to the website
but not incorporated into the Outlook report or discussion.

In addition to the contributions for the monthly reports, pre-season and
informal contributions that do not otherwise fit into the monthly report
format will be accepted throughout the season. Pre-season and informal
contributions provide a way to share information on sea ice parameters
or time periods not included in the regular monthly reports as well as
any early field observations, such as unusual early season conditions.

For more information about pre-season and informal contributions,
submission guidelines, and to read current submissions, see:
https://www.arcus.org/sipn/sea-ice-outlook/2016/informal-contributions.
