  1. Professor and Research Chair
    Humanities and Social Sciences
Memorial University of Newfoundland St. John's
    Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada

The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at Memorial University of
Newfoundland is accepting applications for a position as Professor and
Research Chair in Northern Governance and Public Policy.

Memorial University of Newfoundland is seeking candidates in the area of
Northern Governance and Public Policy, and invite scholars with a strong
record of research accomplishment in any relevant social science
discipline to apply. Applicants should have a strong record of research
in the North (Canada or elsewhere). The successful candidate should
demonstrate an interest in developing, as part of their overall research
agenda, a program of research in Labrador.

The Canada Research Chairs program stands at the centre of a national
strategy to make Canada one of the world’s top countries in research and
development. Tier 2 nominees should meet the requirements for Tier 2
appointment as defined by the CRC program. Tier 2 Chairs are intended
for exceptional emerging scholars (i.e., candidates must be not more
than 10 years from award of Ph.D. at the time of nomination). Applicants
who are more than 10 years from having earned their highest degree (and
where career breaks exist, such as maternity, parental or extended sick
leave, clinical training, etc.) may have their eligibility for a Tier 2
Chair assessed.

For more information about the Canada Research Chairs Program
and to view specific qualifications, go to:
http://www.chairs-chaires.gc.ca/home-accueil-eng.aspx.

The successful candidate will hold a Ph.D. and have an excellent
publication record in a field relevant to the Chair’s mandate.
The candidate will be expected to work well in an
interdisciplinary environment and have a record of public
engagement and knowledge mobilization

publications; and
-A comprehensive vision statement (for the Canadian Research Chair) of
no more than 10 pages describing a specific, personal research program
that includes the applicant's plans to attract and train graduate
students, foster interdisciplinary research at Memorial, and develop
large-scale strategic research projects and/or other programs that will
secure external funding.

Application Deadline: 3 June 2016.

  1. PostDoctoral Position
    Ocean Dynamics-Ice Modeling
    University of Cambridge
    Cambridge, United Kingdom

The University of Cambridge is seeking applicants for a postdoctoral
position in Ocean Dynamics. The position is for a fixed term of 2 years
and is based in Cambridge, United Kingdom.

This project seeks to explore the fluid dynamics of the ocean boundary
layer beneath ice shelves, and to create new parameterisations for
turbulence and melting. The successful candidate will use
high-resolution direct numerical and large-eddy simulations to study
turbulence in the ice-shelf ocean boundary layer during melt conditions.
The project is part of a collaboration between scientists in the
Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics (DAMTP) and
the British Antarctic Survey in Cambridge. The successful candidate will
be based in DAMTP, but will need to work closely and collaboratively
with the whole project team.

The successful candidate will have a PhD in Oceanography, Earth Science,
Applied Mathematics, or a related field, and should have experience
using numerical simulations. Experience with stratified turbulence,
boundary layers, and/or ocean-ice interactions would be greatly desired.

Duties will include developing and conducting individual and
collaborative research objectives, proposals and projects. The role
holder will be expected to plan and manage their own research and
administration, with guidance if required, and to assist in the
preparation of proposals and applications to external bodies. The
candidate must be able to communicate material of a technical nature and
be able to build internal and external contacts. The successful
candidate may be asked to assist in the supervision of student projects,
the development of student research skills, provide instruction or
plan/deliver seminars relating to the research area.

cryospheric processes. Along this central research theme, ArcTrain
provides structured training to PhD students in an interdisciplinary
framework of paleoclimatology, oceanography, environmental physics and
climate science/modeling.

The University of Bremen and the Alfred Wegener Institute are looking
for motivated and qualified candidates with interest in Earth and
environmental sciences, holding strong undergraduate degrees in
