Organizers announce a call for abstracts and workshops for the Aleutian
Life Forum 2016: Building Resilience in the Face of Change. This forum
will take place from 16-20 August 2016 in Dutch Harbor, Alaska.

The Aleutian Life Forum (ALF) is a gathering of national, state, and
regional scientists, industry stakeholders, community leaders, tribal
leaders, and local knowledge holders to promote resilient coastal
communities. At this conference, pressing conservation issues will be
brought forward for discussion and action through information sessions
and community workshops. Topics will include sustainable fisheries,
coastal hazards, community monitoring, and others.

Abstracts are being accepted for oral presentations, posters, and workshops.

To submit a workshop proposal, please provide a one-page description of
the workshop and details on workshop leads, anticipated participants,

  1. Early-Career Travel Grant Available
    2016 International Conference on Permafrost
    20-24 June 2016
    Potsdam, Germany

The U.S. Permafrost Association announces the availability of travel
funding for U.S. based students and post-graduate researchers (within 6
years of their terminal degree) to attend the 2016 International
Conference on Permafrost in Potsdam, Germany.

Successful applicants will receive $2,000 to use towards travel for the
conference. Travel grants will be awarded based on the merit of
applications and their application to permafrost science and
engineering. The applicant must be a first author on a
permafrost-related research presentation. Preference will be given to
applicants who are current members of both USPA and the Permafrost Young
Researchers Network (PYRN). Undergraduate students are especially
encouraged to apply.

Organizers announce a deadline extension for submitting abstracts to the
inaugural UArctic Congress 2016. The Congress will be held from 12-16
September in Saint Petersburg, Russia.

The UArctic Congress 2016 is accepting abstracts under the following
themes:

-Vulnerability of Arctic Environments;
-Vulnerability of Arctic Societies;
-Local and Traditional Knowledge;
-Building Long-Term Human Capacity; and
-New Markets for the Arctic, Including Trade, Tourism and Transportation.

Abstract submission deadline: 17 April 2016.

Notification of accepted abstracts will be no later than 16 May 2016.

    14th International Circumpolar Remote Sensing Symposium
    12-16 September 2016

Organizers of the 14th International Circumpolar Remote Sensing
Symposium (ICRSS) announce a call for abstracts. The symposium will be
held from 12-16 September 2016 in Homer, Alaska.

The theme of the 14th ICRSS symposium is Remote Sensing applications for
addressing emerging research questions and management needs in polar
regions. This symposium is unique in that it deals specifically with
remote sensing applications in Arctic and Antarctic environments and how
the broad suite of remotely sensed information and remote sensing
techniques can provide much needed information for rapidly changing
polar regions.

Unique to the 14th ICRSS will be a day long special session on remote
sensing of permafrost regions. Abstracts are being requested that
directly address this topic in the polar regions as well as techniques
applied to boreal permafrost regions that are applicable to the Arctic
and Antarctic.

Both oral presentation and poster presentation abstracts are being
accepted at this time.
