The Center for Ecosystem Science in Society (Ecoss) at Northern Arizona
University seeks to fill PhD and MSc positions in ecosystem ecology.
These positions will be based in Flagstaff Arizona.

The Ecoss mission is to conduct high-impact, innovative research on
ecosystems and how they respond to and shape environmental change; to
train next-gen scientists; and to communicate discovery and its
relevance to people. Research opportunities are available in the
following areas linked to specific Ecoss faculty:

The impact of climate change on Alaskan ecosystems, including effects of
changing fire regime and permafrost thaw on vegetation dynamics,
plant-soil-microbial interactions, nutrient and carbon cycling, and
ecosystem services. (with M. Mack and T. Schuur)

The effects of environmental change on soil carbon and nutrient cycling,
and the physiological, population, and community ecology of soil
microorganisms. (with B. Hungate, P. Dijkstra, and E. Schwartz)

Freshwater ecology, including the science of river restoration and dam
removal, terrestrial aquatic interactions, and food web ecology. (with
J. Marks)

Exploring the interaction of water and carbon metabolism in diverse
studies ranging from the limits to height growth of the world's tallest
trees to drought responses of soil microorganisms. (with G. Koch)

research interests, and qualifications, as well as a current resume.

The Department of Mathematics at the Faculty of Physical Sciences at the
University of Iceland seeks applicants to fill a PhD student position in
Statistics. This will be a fixed-term position for a duration of 3
years, based in Reykjavik, Iceland.

The successful applicant will work on a project entitled Statistical
Models for Glaciology, which seeks to develop statistical models that
describe glaciological data in combination with theoretical ice flow
dynamics). The student will work with a consortium of experts in
Bayesian statistics and glaciology at the University of Iceland and
experts in spatial statistics, spatio-temporal models and Bayesian
computation from the University of Missouri and the Norwegian University
of Science and Technology

Applicants should have an MSc degree in one of the following fields:
statistics, mathematics, physics, geophysics, or engineering. A strong
background in mathematics is necessary, and programming experience in R
or Matlab is required.

  1. Dartmouth College seeks Postdoctoral Visiting Young Scientist
    Glaciology, Space Physics, Engineering

Dartmouth College seeks a postdoctoral candidate for a Visiting Young
Scientist position in glaciology, space physics, and/or engineering. The
position is for a fixed term of 6 months with a possible 3-month
extension, and will be based in Hanover, New Hampshire.

The successful applicant will be working on part of a NASA Space Grant.
To be eligible, candidates must be U.S. citizens engaged in research
related to space science, planetary science, astrophysics, remote
sensing, aerospace technology, or technology dependent on space-based
platforms. The position includes teaching in the departments of Physics
and Astronomy, Engineering, or Earth Sciences.

  1. Arctic Institute of North America seeks Postdoctoral Candidate
    Arctic Historical Climatology and Marine Ecology

The Arctic Institute of North America (AINA) at the University of
Calgary seeks a postdoctoral candidate for a position in Arctic
historical climatology and marine ecology. The position is for a fixed
term of 2 years, and will be based in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

This position is supported by the Eyes High Postdoctoral Scholars
program (http://www.ucalgary.ca/research/eyes-high-postdoc). The
successful applicant will work on a project entitled 'Northern Seas: An
Interdisciplinary Study of Human/Marine/Climate System Interactions in
Arctic North America over the Last Millennium,' whioch is an
interdisciplinary investigation of human/marine system interactions in
the context of climate and sea ice variability over the past millennium.

Applicants must have a PhD in historical geography, environmental
history, historical ecology/climatology, or a related field. GIS
expertise is required, and the ability to read Norwegian, Danish, or
French is an asset. All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply,
however Canadians and permanent residents will be given priority.

    Medical Anthropology, focus on Canadian Indigenous Peoples
    Calgary, Alberta, Canada

The Department of Anthropology and Archaeology at the University of
Calgary seeks a tenure-track professor of medical anthropology. This is
a full-time position, and will be based in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

The program is interested in a scholar who will establish and maintain
an active research program in the area of medical anthropology with a
focus on the health, community health, and community well-being of
Indigenous peoples of Canada. The successful candidate will produce high
impact research and scholarship, secure external research funding and
play an active role in teaching and graduate supervision in the
Department of Anthropology and Archaeology. Service to the department,
faculty, University and community will also be expected.

Applicants must have a PhD in anthropology or a related field, and must
display evidence of excellence in both research and teaching informed by
Indigenous epistemologies, ontologies, and knowledges. Preference will
be given to candidates who have experience and expertise in advancing
projects with Canadian Indigenous communities in their field of research.
