  1. REMINDER: Call for Abstracts and Registration
    9th Annual Polar Technology Conference
    2-4 April 2013
    U.S. Naval Academy
    Annapolis, Maryland, USA

Organizers of the 9th Annual Polar Technology Conference announce
registration and a call for abstracts. The conference, hosted by the
Polar Science Program of the U.S. Naval Academy, will convene 2-4 April
2013 in Annapolis, Maryland.

The primary purpose of this conference is to provide a forum for polar
scientists and technology developers to exchange information on research
system operational needs and technology solutions that have been
successful in polar environments. This exchange of knowledge will help
to address issues of design, implementation, and deployment of research
support systems in polar regions.

Participants of previous Polar Technology Conferences have come from the
private sector, state and federal agencies, non-governmental
organizations, and academia. Presentations generally cover system
requirements for proposed research along with descriptions of systems
and approaches that have been proven in polar deployments. Typical
hardware and software topics have included weather stations, robotics,
power systems, telemetry, and remote communications. The scale of
systems ranges from the autonomous data collection towers to large-scale
research stations. Polar venues represented include under, on, and above
the ice, tundra, or sea.

Organizers call for abstracts for oral and/or poster presentations in
all technology fields. Accommodation of oral presentation abstracts
submitted after 8 March 2013 will be subject to schedule time
availability.

Abstract deadline: Friday, 8 March 2013.

Abstracts may be submitted after conference registration is completed.

  1. Call for Abstracts and Registration
    PAST Gateways International Conference
    13-17 May 2013
    St. Petersburg, Russia

Organizers of the international conference entitled "Palaeo-Arctic
Spatial and Temporal (PAST) Gateways" announce registration and call for
abstracts. The conference will convene 13-17 May 2013 in St.Petersburg,
Russia.

PAST Gateways is a network research program endorsed by the
International Arctic Science Committee (IASC). The scientific goal of
PAST Gateways is to understand arctic environmental change during the
period preceding instrumental records and across decadal to millennial
timescales. The focus of the six-year program is on the nature and
significance of spatial and temporal arctic gateways, with an emphasis
on the transitions between major Late Cenozoic climate events and recent
Holocene fluctuations. There are three major themes to the program:

  1. Growth and decay of arctic ice sheets;
  2. Arctic sea-ice and ocean changes, and
  3. Non-glaciated arctic environments.

Abstract deadline: Friday, 15 March 2013.

Registration deadline: Friday, 15 March 2013.
