REGIONAL GRANTS CONFERENCE Colorado School of Mines Holiday Inn - Denver
West Village Golden, Colorado 14-16 October 1999

OVERVIEW This is an intensive conference on proposal preparation, NSF
programs, merit review, grant administration, FastLane system, and other
items. It's geared toward junior faculty, but any educator, administrator,
or organizational representative interested in participating in the
competition for NSF awards would benefit from the information.

CONFERENCE ANNOUNCEMENT The National Science Foundation announces a
regional conference sponsored by the Colorado School of Mines to share
information that could make faculty members more competitive for NSF grants
and could expand research administrators' knowledge about this important
agency.

Staff from universities, community colleges, research non-profit
organizations, and other NSF customers are cordially invited to attend.

The conference is scheduled for Thursday, 14 October, and Friday, 15
October at the Holiday Inn - Denver West Village. It is followed on
Saturday, 16 October, at the Colorado School of Mines campus in Golden, CO,
with workshops on the NSF FastLane System,
http://www.mines.edu/Outreach/Cont_Ed/nsf3.html (two for faculty and two
for research administrators).

Separate registration for the FastLane Workshops is REQUIRED.

REGISTRATION DEADLINE is 1 October 1999.

The conference will be structured to appeal to several important audiences:
faculty, educators, and research administrators. We urge you to send as
many faculty and staff as possible to interact directly with NSF's program
officers. We anticipate as many as 300 participants from Utah, Montana,
Idaho, Wyoming, Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, Kansas, Nebraska, and North
and South Dakota.

The NSF Grants Conference will provide a distinctive program that
emphasizes new initiatives and cross-Directorate programs that should be of
interest to both research and teaching institutions. Workshops and
presentations by NSF staff will be presented on the following topics:

  • NSF's Funding and Directions * Cross-Disciplinary and Special Interest
Programs * Break-out Sessions by Discipline * Proposal Preparation * Merit
Review Process * Grant Award and Administration

Junior faculty are encouraged to attend the conference to meet personally
with NSF representatives and to learn about proposal preparation, merit
review, and award administration.

NSF conducts only two regional conferences each year. We hope that you will
take advantage of this special opportunity.
