Conference And Workshop For Joint Studies
Of The Modern Arctic Climate
Qingdao, China
4-6 April 2000

General Objectives

The organizers with to encourage partnership projects related to an
understanding of the modern climate of the Arctic regions.

Conference 4-5 April

The conference will promote a dialogue and exchange of information within
the international research community conducting basic research related to
the modern climate of the Arctic. We invite papers and posters on the topics
of

  • ocean circulation and hydrography
  • freshwater balance of the Arctic Ocean
  • sea ice
  • atmospheric circulation and dynamics
  • cloud, radiation, and atmospheric thermodynamics
  • biology and primary productivity
  • production and exchange of greenhouse gases
  • land surface processes
  • biogeochemical cycle
  • air-sea interactions (physical and chemical)
  • land-shelf exchange processes

The language of the conference will be English. Only limited simultaneous
translation will be available.

Conference Themes
MODELS AND SIMULATIONS
We invite discussions regarding mathematical models and simulations
produced by mathematical models.

Workshop 6 April

IARC and MASUM(SOA,FIO) wish to promote institute-to-institute and
scientist–to-scientist projects. Toward that end, IARC plans to fund a
limited number of joint projects.

The workshop will provide a forum for potential partners to formulate and
discuss research projects. The workshop will also be an opportunity for
partners to make specific proposals for the funding. If you now have a
project in mind but do not have a partner, please contact one of the
chair-persons for assistance in finding a partner.

Registration and Abstracts

Chinese participants may register their participation and submit abstracts
to Dr. Weidong YU. Other participants may contact

The abstracts only will be published as a record of the conference. The
deadline for abstracts is 1 march 2000.
There is no fee for registration.

Excursions 7-8 April

On Friday and Saturday trips to Lao Shan Mountainand Qingdao City are
planned.

invitation.

Housing and Travel Support

Chinese participants may apply for travel and per diem support by writing to
Prof. Fangli Qiao. Limited support for other participants is available,
