Faculty Position in Geophysics (Full or Associate Professor level)
The Department of Geophysics at the University Courses on Svalbard (UNIS),
Svalbard, Norway invites applications for a faculty position in Upper Polar
Atmosphere. In addition to the vacant position, two professors in
Oceanography and Meteorology, and one Associated Professor in Middle Polar
Atmosphere are affiliated with the department. The department staff also
include three adjunct professors, a guest scientist in Oceanography and
three Ph.D. students.

UNIS has the operating management of the Aurora Research Station in
Adventdalen. The Station is a platform for both teaching and research for
the upper polar atmosphere. Furthermore, UNIS works closely with EISCAT
Svalbard Radar.

Competence within optical instrumentation for the study of the upper
atmosphere will be considered a definite advantage. Generally, experience
from experimental research will be an asset, as UNIS stresses the value of
integrated field studies and scientific measurement techniques.

An additional consideration will be the specific field of research of the
candidates - as the successful applicant must compliment the current staff
in the department and must fit the department's long-term research profile
objectives.

UNIS is a foundation owned by the four Norwegian Universities and is located
in Longyearbyen, on Svalbard. The studies at UNIS are advertised
internationally, and all classes are offered in English. UNIS is highly
multinational - currently students from 18 countries are studying at UNIS.
