Fourth International Symposium on Permafrost Engineering
Lanzhou, China
21-23 September 2000

OBJECTIVES AND THEMES
The Fourth International Symposium on Permafrost Engineering (4th ISPE)
will mainly discuss and exchange the research achievements and practical
experiences on the permafrost engineering science and technology obtained
in Russia and Western China in recent years. We believe that this symposium
will play an important role in the great development of Western China. The
themes of this symposium are:
* Road engineering in permafrost and deep seasonally frozen soil region;
* Railway engineering in permafrost regions;
* Pipeline, civil engineering, hydro-engineering, and other engineering
in permafrost and deep seasonally frozen soil regions;
* Environment engineering in permafrost regions; and
* Monitoring methods and techniques for cold region engineering.

PLACE AND DATE
This symposium will be held at Lanzhou, China on 21-23 September 2000.
Registration will be done at the Guest House of the State Kay Laboratory of
Frozen Soil Engineering (SKLFSE) on 20 September 2000.

REGISTRATION FEE
Those wishing to participate in this symposium are requested to fill in the
Registration Form included in this Announcement and return it to the
Secretariat of the symposium no later than 1 August 2000.

The registration fee will cover the following items: food, reception,
coffee breaks, local transportation, Lanzhou city visit, and all
publications including proceedings.

The registration fee is US$250 for regular participants and US$150 for
accompanying and student participants.
