ICE-CORING AND DRILLING SERVICES CONTRACT AWARDED

The National Science Foundation (NSF) has awarded the Ice Coring and
Drilling Services contract to the Space Science and Engineering Center at
University of Wisconsin, Madison. The Principle Investigator is Professor
Charles Bentley. This contract continues the ice-coring and drilling
services undertaken for the NSF by the Polar Ice Coring Office (PICO) at the
University of Nebraska, Lincoln. The contract supports science groups
working in both polar regions and mid-latitude glaciers who need to recover
ice-cores or drill holes into, or through glaciers for a variety of
investigations. The contractor will provide a variety of drilling systems
and staff to support these activities, and be tasked to develop new
drilling systems as the science projects supported by the NSF require.

The Space Science and Engineering Center will shortly be developing and
website to provide information on their organization, services and
