Dear Colleagues,

The Western Arctic Shelf-Basin Interactions (SBI) project office is
sponsoring a SBI Phase I Principal Investigators Meeting on 8-9 February
2001 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, U.S.A. that is open to the scientific
community. This meeting will provide an update of the SBI project and
Phase I results coincident with the SBI Phase II Announcement of
Opportunity for proposal submission in spring 2001 for the field program
to be initiated in 2002.

The upcoming SBI meeting will be held at the Hilton Albuquerque, five
minutes from the airport (see
http://www.hilton.com/hotels/ABQHIHF/index.html for hotel features).
I've secured the ASLO group rate, so lodging is available for $90, plus
tax/night (1-4 people/room). All participants are responsible for their
own lodging, food, and transportation costs. The blocked reservation is
under the title "University of Tennessee/Western Arctic Shelf-Basin
Interactions Meeting". Please wait until 8 December 2000 to start making
any reservations, but be aware that 17 January 2001 is the cut-off date
for the blocked room rate. You must give the title of the meeting to the
hotel in order to secure the blocked room rate when making your
reservation. The hotel reservation phone contact number is: 505/884-2500
or 800/274-6835, and they request you call between 8 am and 5 pm,
Mountain Standard time. Note that the hotel has an early departure fee
of $50 if you depart earlier than your reserved checkout date.

The format of the meeting will be 10-minute presentations by the SBI
Phase I PIs, a poster session for all participants, and break-out times
for discussions. I'll be asking for abstracts from all people making
either oral and/or poster presentations. There will be a standard format
for these abstracts and information on this format will be sent to
confirmed participants. The meeting will run from 0830 on Thursday, 8
February through 1500 on Friday, 9 February 2001.

Please provide me your name, email, phone/fax, and mailing address if
you plan to attend this meeting as soon as possible so that I can adjust
the rooming and food arrangements, as well as prepare the meeting books.

Further information on this February 2001 SBI meeting will be posted on
the SBI webpage: http://www.utk-biogw.bio.utk.edu/SBI.nsf within the
next two weeks.

Best regards,
