For more information about the UNOLS Arctic Icebreaker Coordinating
Committee (AICC), see the UNOLS web site http://www.unols.org/aicc/
or the ARCUS web site at http://www.arcus.org/AICC/index.html,
or contact the AICC chair, Lisa M. Clough (cloughl [at] mail.ecu.edu).

The UNOLS Arctic Icebreaker Coordinating Committee (AICC) provides
scientific oversight of Arctic marine science support on US ice-capable
vessels available to academic science, with primary focus on USCG
icebreakers POLAR SEA, POLAR STAR and HEALY. The AICC provides Arctic
marine scientists with planning and scheduling assistance, facilitates
communications between scientists, science funders, and facility
providers, and provides oversight and advice to the Coast guard for the
purpose of enhancing facilities and science aboard their icebreaker
fleet.

We currently meet twice a year-once in Washington, DC, and once in
Seattle, Washington, the homeport of all three USCG icebreakers. In
addition to meeting duties, AICC members are called on to provide advice
over e-mail, and to do such things as evaluate logistics compatibility
of any Science of Opportunity cruises on board the USCG icebreakers. We
anticipate having three (3) vacancies on the AICC as of 9/01. At this
time we are accepting nominations and volunteers for the anticipated
vacancies. Please contact the AICC chair, Lisa M. Clough
(cloughl [at] mail.ecu.edu) for more information.

Sincerely,
Lisa Clough
Chair, UNOLS AICC
