FIRST ANNOUNCEMENT:
ARCSS All-Hands Workshop
20-23 February 2002
Bell Harbor International Conference Center
Seattle, Washington, USA

The ARCSS Committee, on behalf of the National Science Foundation Arctic
System Science (ARCSS) Program, invites the research community to share
ideas and research results with your colleagues and help set the future
direction for arctic system research at the second ARCSS All-Hands
Workshop, 20-23 February 2002 in Seattle, Washington. The ARCSS Committee
invites everyone associated with ARCSS research to participate. We
particularly encourage students and international colleagues to attend,
as well as anyone interested in the future of the ARCSS Program and
arctic system science. We expect about 300 participants.

The purpose of the 2002 ARCSS All-Hands workshop is to assess progress
in understanding the arctic system, and to identify gaps, integration
opportunities, and new questions related to five major ARCSS research
themes:
- Future arctic climate
- Interactions of arctic ecosystems and human societies
- Biogeochemical feedbacks
- Hydrologic feedbacks
- Detecting change

PRE-REGISTRATION
The Arctic Research Consortium of the U.S. (ARCUS) will handle meeting
arrangements. If you expect to attend the All-Hands workshop, please
PRE-REGISTER on the ARCUS web site:
http://www.arcus.org/ARCSS/allhands2002/prereg.html and save the dates
on your calendar. Additional announcements about conference
registration, lodging, posters, and the conference program will follow.
The conference fee is expected to be about $100. Limited funding will be
available to support conference participation. Travel support will be
prioritized to encourage the participation of students and post-doctoral
researchers.

The ARCSS Committee is working with ARCSS Science Steering Committee
Chairs to develop a web site that will present the conference goals to
the larger ARCSS community: http://www.arcus.org/arcss_allhands/. For
further information, contact Alison York (york [at] arcus.org) at ARCUS or a
