Atmospheric/Cryospheric Observing Systems in the Arctic
University of Washington
Seattle, Washington

27-29 November 2001

Sponsored by the Interagency Study of Environmental Arctic Change
(SEARCH)

This workshop will be held in Seattle, Washington, on 27-29 November
2001 to discuss existing knowledge of large-scale
atmospheric/cryospheric observing systems in the context of SEARCH. The
goal of the workshop is to discuss how current observations can be best
used and enhanced to understand and predict the ongoing changes in the
Arctic. This task is complex because many routine observational systems
were not specifically designed for climate purposes. Such an assessment
contributes toward a future interagency program under the auspices of
SEARCH. See: http://psc.apl.washington.edu/search

The workshop objectives are to review the state of knowledge through
invited speakers; to foster group discussion through panels on land,
sea-ice, and atmospheric observation systems; and to produce a summary
report. The workshop is advisory to the SEARCH Interagency Working Group
and Science Steering Committee.

The workshop will be held on the campus of the University of Washington.
A preliminary agenda is available on the SEARCH web site listed above.

Further information on the workshop is available from Jim Overland at

2001.
