Foundation for Polar and Marine Research,
Bremerhaven, Germany

is seeking an experienced micropalaeontologist for the periglacial
working group of the AWI Research Unit Potsdam.

CLOSING DATE: 31 December 2001

The position involves micropalaeontological investigations in sediments
of polar lakes as well as in permafrost sequences, recovered mostly from
Siberia. Emphasis is put on the estimation of diatom distributions and
on the use and application of transfer functions in order to reconstruct
the palaeo-environmental conditions in lakes and their catchments as
well as the surrounding permafrost regions.

Applicants should by qualified in micropalaeontology of lacustrine
diatom assemblages and in palaeolimnology. Experience in diatoms of
polar and subpolar lacustrine sediments would be desirable.

The Alfred Wegener Institute offers a social and health package
according to German Federal laws (BAT-IIa/Ost).

Requirements are physical suitability and readiness to take part in
expeditions to polar regions.
