59th EASTERN SNOW CONFERENCE
Stowe, Vermont, U.S.A.

5-7 June 2002

An international organization in eastern Canada and the northeastern
United States concerned with the origin, precipitation, accumulation,
character, melt, and runoff of snow.

The 59th Eastern Snow Conference (ESC) will be held in Stowe, Vermont,
USA, from 5-7 June 2002. The scientific program is open to theoretical,
experimental, and operational studies of snow, ice, and winter
hydrology. Major scientific themes include arctic research and climate
system. The snow theme is "Snow and Ice Impacts on Operations: Theory
and Applications." Student travel assistance and several student paper
awards are available. You are invited to submit an abstract for an oral
or a poster presentation. An abstract of 150-300 words should be
submitted by 31 January 2002 to the program chair:

Email submissions are encouraged.

All papers will be published in the ESC Proceedings. In addition,
Hydrological Processes (HP) will publish refereed papers from the
meeting. The subject matter of these papers must fit within the scope of
the journal. If you would like your paper to be considered for journal
publication, please indicate this on your abstract and submit four
copies of your paper to Janet Hardy (ESC/HP editor) by 1 April 2002. For

Students are encouraged to enter the ESC Student Paper Competition. For
conditions and details please consult the ESC web site. The winner of
the student award will receive the Wiesnet Medal, a $250 prize, and up
to $500 toward travel expenses to attend the conference. To be
considered for the student paper award, four copies of the paper with
the supervisor's endorsement must reach the Chair of the Research
Committee, Claude Duguay, postmarked no later than 28 February 2002:
