The ARCSS Committee, on behalf of the National Science Foundation Arctic
System Science (ARCSS) Program, invites the research community to help
set the future direction for arctic system research at the upcoming
ARCSS All-Hands Workshop, 20-23 February 2002 in Seattle, Washington.

Workshop Focus
The ARCSS All-Hands Workshop will focus on the future directions of
Arctic System Science. The purpose of the workshop is to assess the
state of the art in research on global change, environmental impacts,
and biocomplexity, emphasizing arctic and global aspects, to identify
gaps in knowledge and areas for research integration, and to discuss
vital new research initiatives. Working group discussions will be
centered around the following broad research areas:
Arctic Nearshore and Coastal Processes
Modes of Natural Variability in the Arctic System
The Hydrologic Cycle and its Role in Arctic and Global Environmental
ChangeThe ARCSS Themes: Key Uncertainties and Readiness for Research

The ARCSS Committee invites everyone associated with ARCSS research to
participate. We particularly encourage students and international
colleagues to attend, as well as anyone interested in the future of the
ARCSS Program and arctic system science. We expect about 300
participants.
