WWF CONTRACT POSTING

Title: Project Leader - Beaufort Sea Conservation
Division: Conservation (Arctic Program)
Reporting to: Dr. Pete Ewins, Director
Start Date: 2 April 2002
Location: Inuvik, NWT, Canada

Responsibilities include:
The Project Leader of WWF Canada's Beaufort Sea office is responsible
for ensuring that WWF's marine conservation work is delivered
effectively at the regional level. Assisted by support from the
Yellowknife and Toronto offices, advice from WWF's regional advisors,
and strong partnerships with the Inuvialuit, the federal Dept. of
Fisheries and Oceans, the oil and gas industry, and regional
co-management bodies, the primary tasks are to design and implement
WWF's regional marine conservation goals, including building strong
partnerships to help implement a representative system of marine
protected areas (MPAs) within an Integrated Management (IM) plan for the
Canadian waters of the Beaufort Sea.

Formal qualifications, knowledge and experience:
- University degree, preferably to Master's level, in marine biology or
other relevant environmental subject
- At least three years management experience in: program design and
delivery; marine resource industries; wildlife harvesting and
conservation; landscape-level planning; scientific research; or public
outreach
- Experience in working with small communities to deliver conservation
initiatives

Skills and abilities required:
- Excellent verbal and written communications
- Self-driven and persuasive, ability to focus on priority targets
- Well organized
- Negotiation and conflict resolution
- Mature judgement and demonstrated ability to work effectively with a
wide variety of interests
- Strong team player
- Keen interest in, and understanding of, nature conservation,
aboriginal issues and the non-profit environment
- Computer literacy

Terms:
This is a one-year, full-time contract position to 31 March 2003, with
possibility of renewal to March 2005.
