The Circumpolar PhD Network in Arctic Environmental Studies in
co-operation with Lulea University of Technology announces the PhD Course

"Sustainable Development and the Environmental, Political, Economic, and
Legal Institutions of Society"

Lulea, Sweden

14-29 September 2002

The course is conducted in cooperation between CAES Network, and the
Division of Political Science, the Division of Economics, and Division
of Jurisprudence at the department of Business Administration and Social
Sciences, Lulea University of Technology. It is sponsored by the
European Consortium for Political Research (ECPR) and through CAES
Network by the Nordic Academy of Advanced Studies (NorFA) and the
Swedish Institute.

The aim of the course is to give young researchers from various
disciplines, focusing on sustainable environmental and socio-economic
development, the opportunity to exchange ideas with senior and junior
colleagues from other universities in Europe.

The course topics will be covered by a multidisciplinary team of
internationally recognised researchers. The course program also includes
student seminars and excursions.

The course comprises two weeks of intensive work including lectures,
seminars, discussions, and field excursions. In addition to this,
participants will be requested to prepare a seminar paper for
presentation during the Course. Academic credits given to the course are
considered to be equivalent to 9 ECTS.

Who can apply: PhD students or students who are planning to do PhD and
Post docs
