Do you want a challenging and satisfying job? The Northwest Territories
Chapter of the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society (CPAWS-NWT) is
currently seeking a GIS Project Analyst. The successful applicant will
be responsible for setting up a GIS program, managing the development
and production of a variety of GIS projects, producing maps and
conducting GIS analysis for CPAWS protected area campaigns and other
conservation projects throughout the NWT. The position is based in
Yellowknife, which is located on the shores of Great Slave Lake.
Yellowknife has the friendly feeling of a small town, great access to
wilderness and all the amenities of a major city.

Responsibilities/Projects Include:
- Conducting a GIS needs assessment, and ordering and installing
necessary equipment and software to set up a complete GIS program;
- Acquiring, compiling and cataloguing digital data and mapping layers
(data management), and digitizing and creating new data layers;
- Providing technical input for evaluating areas of high conservation
interest;
- Conducting spatial analyses, including assessments of protected areas
network requirements and conservation suitability, and providing
results, statistics, and evaluations;
- Providing mapping services and technical computer support; and
- Coordinating meetings, preparing reports, presentations, briefs,
agendas and minutes, as required.

Qualifications/Skills:
Proven ability to develop and independently lead concurrent GIS projects
involving GIS data acquisition and database management. Graduate of a
post-secondary institution (i.e., college, university, or technical
school) with a major in GIS, land use or resource management planning or
related field with a minimum of 1 year of work experience. Equivalencies
that consist of a combination of education, knowledge, skills and
abilities equal in worth to formal education and experience requirements
will be considered. Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
