Nominations needed for scholarships to emerging researchers and workers
in the field of circumpolar health to increase international cooperation
in circumpolar health research and education.
Criteria:
Candidates should be students or others new to the chosen field or area
of work. Candidates may be studying/working in such areas as health
care, health field workers (health aides, telemedicine, nursing,
infomatics, technicians, mental health, public health, traditional
healing, environmental fields, educators, veterinarians,
midwives-including traditional. Non-traditional contributions might
consist of innovation, leadership, or newly recognized roles.
Application Process:
Candidates/Nominees must submit a two (2) page abstract of a proposed
presentation (at ICCH 9/03) or a short description of what the applicant
proposes to study. Include contact information such as address, phone,
fax, and email.

Disposition:
Nominees will be reviewed by the JPHHMF subcommittee of the IUCH for
selection of award recipient. Recipient will be notified and will also
be eligible to receive complimentary registration at the September, 2003
meeting of the International Congress for Circumpolar Health held in
Nuuk, Greenland if they present their work at the Congress.
About Dr. JP Hart Hansen:
This former chairman of the Nordic Council for Arctic Medical Research,
former president of the International Union for Circumpolar Health, and
chairman of the Commission for Scientific Research in Greenland, died in
1998 from acute leukemia. Dr. Hart Hansen's interest in the northern
regions manifested itself during his student days and continued on in
full force until his untimely death. He had the ability to see important
issues of a complicated problem and he was pivotal in developing the
IUCH to its present status.
