We are writing again to invite your participation at the ARCUS 15th
Annual Meeting and Arctic Forum 2003 in Arlington, Virginia, 28-29 April
2003. All sessions will be held at the DoubleTree Hotel-Crystal City in
Arlington, VA. Online registration and other information about the

ARCTIC FORUM
The theme of the 2003 Arctic Forum is "Responding to Global Change:
Resilience and Vulnerability in the Arctic Systems."
The Arctic Forum agenda is available at

The Arctic Forum agenda includes invited presentations, as well as
posters on all aspects of arctic research.

Keynote speakers include:
* Dr. James R. Mahoney, Director of the United States Climate Change
Science Program, will speak about The U.S. Climate Change Science
Program and its Relevance to the Arctic. Mahoney is the Assistant
Secretary of Commerce for Oceans and Atmosphere and Deputy NOAA
Administrator.

  • Dr. Gordon Orians, chair of the National Research Council Committee on
    Cumulative Environmental Effects of Oil and Gas Activities on Alaska's
    North Slope, will speak on the cumulative effects of oil and gas
    activities on the physical, biological, and human systems of the region.
    Orians is Professor Emeritus of Zoology at the University of Washington.
    He was elected to the National Academy of Sciences in 1989 and has
    served as chair of the Board of Environmental Studies and Toxicology
    since 1997.

The student recipients of the Seventh Annual ARCUS Award for Arctic
Research Excellence will present their award-winning papers during the
Forum as well.

PRESENT A POSTER AT THE ARCTIC FORUM
Although the focus of the Forum is on resilience and vulnerability in
the arctic systems, posters on all aspects of arctic research are
encouraged and accepted. You are invited to submit an abstract to
present one or more posters at the Arctic Forum, scheduled for 28-29
April 2003.
