Remote sensing analysts (2-3 positions)
The Norwegian Polar Institute is about to step up their activities
within satellite based research and environmental monitoring, and for
this we are looking for 2 - 3 analysts with core competence in remote
sensing and image analysis. One of the positions will be at postdoc
level.

Over a number of years the Norwegian Polar Institute has been working to
develop methods and scientific foundations for the use of satellite
remote sensing in environmental monitoring and climate research. The
analysts will be working with several new projects, spanning sea ice
monitoring, marine biodiversity, glacier mass balance and snow cover.
The tasks include cal/val activities within the Cryosat programme, the
use of SAR instruments in monitoring and classification of sea ice and
glacier ice, and mapping of marine mammal habitats and marine
bioproduction, and possibly operational oceanography. This includes
research work as well as the implementation and operation of monitoring
systems.

The applicant must hold a relevant Masters degree, PhD or equivalent
qualification, and should have sound expertise in image analysis and
GIS. A relevant scientific background and work in the polar regions is
preferred. Teamwork, and the ability to hold good presentations is
important. The successful applicant must be fluent in both spoken and
written English.

The posts are for 2 or 3 years, starting September 1st 2003. The
analysts will join an inspiring, international working environment at
our main office in Tromsø. Some fieldwork will be required.

Salary: In the range of NOK 300.000 - 360.000, depending on
qualifications.
