The Department of Geology at the University Centre on Svalbard (UNIS),
Svalbard, Norway, invites applications for a faculty position, carrying
significant responsibilities in research and teaching, as well as
supervising Masters and Doctorate students.

Description of the Vacant Position

The vacant position is within of the Department of Geology. At the
moment, there are two Full Professors, two Associate Professors and
three Adjunct Professors employed at the Department. Further information

The foundation for the research at the Department of Geology is
field-related activities that exploit both the geographical position and
the natural advantages of Svalbard. With its numerous geological
exposures, landscape types and the adjacent shelf, Svalbard offers a
range of unique opportunities to study processes related to development
and infill of sedimentary basins. The research at the department focus
on sedimentary basins at high latitude and the processes controlling
their development and infill through time and space, including
tectonics, sea-level changes, climatic changes and present-day
high-latitude terrestrial and marine processes.

The professional background of the applicant should be related to this
scientific platform in general and he/she should have research
qualifications in pre-Quaternary stratigraphy, sedimentology or
structural geology. Previous research experience from Svalbard will be
considered an advantage. Also previous teaching experience and formal
pedagogical education will be considered.

It is expected that the successful applicant will carry out active,
productive research in her/his special field, will supervise Masters and
Doctoral students and will actively be involved in both research and
teaching at the department. Research, teaching and supervision at UNIS
are expected to be highly field-related. The successful applicant should
expect to be involved in the courses AG-201, AG-303 and AG-308 on
teaching and/or administrative level.

Qualifications

Applicants for the position must be able to document their
qualifications as Full or Associate Professor. To be considered for the
position of Associate Professor a Ph.D. in an appropriate field, or its
equivalent, is the minimum requirement.
