The first Open Science Meeting for the Study of Environmental Arctic
Change (SEARCH) will be held October 27-30, 2003 in Seattle, Washington.
The primary goal of the Open Science Meeting (OSM) is to provide an
international forum for discussion of research that addresses the basic
premise of SEARCH-that there exists a complex of interrelated pan-Arctic
changes occurring across terrestrial, oceanic, atmospheric and human
systems. The meeting will be organized into three major themes of
Changes/Impacts, Feedbacks, and Drivers/Causes, with a focus on
identifying unresolved scientific issues and future research
opportunities. The meeting will include invited keynote talks, parallel
science sessions with contributed papers, moderated panel discussions,
and poster sessions, with a goal of receiving significant input from a
diverse international and interdisciplinary community.

Papers
The organizing committee is accepting papers to be featured in several
parallel science sessions. Submitted abstracts will be reviewed by the
session co-chairs and the organizing committee. Authors will be notified
regarding acceptance early August 2003.

Under the category "Changes and Impacts," papers will be accepted for
four parallel sessions:
1. Changes on Land
2. Changes in the Sea
3. Changes in the Atmosphere
4. Coastal Processes

Under the category "Feedbacks," papers will be accepted for three
parallel sessions:
5. Social Feedbacks
6. Biological Feedbacks
7. Physical Feedbacks

Papers also will be accepted for a parallel session on:
8. Drivers/Causes in the SEARCH context

Posters
Poster submissions are encouraged for all of the eight categories above.
Posters relevant to any aspect of environmental arctic change consistent
with the themes of SEARCH are also welcomed. Poster abstracts will be
reviewed and accepted upon submission.

Submission Guidelines
Participants may submit abstracts on-line at:
http://www.arcus.org/SEARCH/search.html

There is no fee for abstract submission. The Open Science Meeting early
registration fee is $210 (USD). After September 1, 2003, the
registration fee will be $250 (USD).

Paper abstracts must be received no later than Friday, 11 July 2003.
