The Arctic Centre of the University of Lapland
(http://www.arcticcentre.org), on the Arctic Circle in Finland, is an
international institute of high-level expertise on multidisciplinary
research, electronic and library information services. Its science
centre exhibition displays the environment, peoples and common arctic
issues today. Arctic Centre has a goal to grow as the "European Centre
of Excellence on Northern Dimension and Arctic Knowledge".

As part of its Science Centre exhibition's renewal campaign, Arctic
Centre is searching for creative professionals to fill the following
position:

SCIENTIFIC COMMUNICATOR
Being part of the planning team, this person will be responsible to:
(1) collect scientific information and related existing materials
according to the thematic contents of the future exhibition
(2) meet the challenge of popularisation into different formats
(3) take active and constructive part in their integration into the
visual, interactive or computer based exhibits

The applicant is expected to have:

  • Education or experience in popularisation of science
  • Past experience in science centre exhibition work is an asset
  • Background in one or more scientific fields; Multidisciplinary
    experience is an asset
  • Knowledge about arctic regions and research
  • Ability to work in a team and in an international context
  • Good writing skills as well as spoken and written English.

The position is for one year starting March 2004. Negotiable
