An invitation is extended to all student, faculty, governmental,
non-governmental, and independent researchers who work in northern
regions, to present in a special session on Northern Geographies.

Gita Laidler, PhD Candidate, University of Toronto, along with Heather
Castleden, PhD Candidate, University of Alberta and President of the
Circumpolar Students Association are the co-organizers of this special
session.

Presentations may reflect any type of geographic, or related, research
that is conducted in northern Canada (or one of the other circumpolar
nations). Northern Canada is defined according to ACUNS (Association of
Canadian Universities for Northern Studies):
http://www.cyberus.ca/~acuns/EN/awards.html

SESSION
This is meant to be an interdisciplinary session that promotes dialogue
among northern researchers who may not otherwise normally find
themselves in the same session. It is hoped that increased interaction
among various sub-disciplines of geography can provide new and creative
approaches to northern research, while fostering networking and
potential collaborative opportunities.

ABSTRACTS
We are currently looking for expressions of interest to present in this
session. The abstracts will not be due until January 2004, but we would
like to get a feel for the level of interest by 15 December 2003 in
order to help conference organizers plan session scheduling. Please
respond to either one of us indicating your area of research and a brief
description of your proposed paper.
