The Center for Coastal Physical Oceanography (CCPO) at Old Dominion
University (ODU) is seeking applicants for postdoctoral fellow positions
in one or more of the following areas of study:

  • Observational physical oceanography and process-oriented studies of
    estuary-ocean exchange, estuarine

  • Dynamics, and coastal ocean dynamics

  • Interdisciplinary research and modeling

  • Remote sensing and optics

  • Modeling submesoscale processes by particle methods using parallel
    architectures

  • Other projects of interest to CCPO faculty

FOCUS
CCPO's research focus is on coastal physical oceanography. To further
interest and research in this area, CCPO provides research facilities, a
seminar series, and opportunities for outside scientists to visit and
work at the Center.

CCPO is funded by Commonwealth and Federal agencies to facilitate
innovative research in the coastal ocean. The Center has an SGI Origin
2000 computer (8 processors), which is used for visualization and
calculation, as well as Sun and Windows 2000/XP workstations. The
University has a Sun Enterprise 10000 computer with 64 processors
available for research. Standard observational equipment is available
and a new research vessel is maintained by the Department of Ocean,
Earth and Atmospheric Sciences (OEAS).

FACULTY
The physical oceanography section of OEAS currently has 7 teaching
faculty, 9 research faculty, 12 staff, and 17 graduate students. As a
whole, the Department has 22 faculty and approximately 50 graduate
students. Successful candidates can expect funding for salary and fringe
benefits for a period of two years.

Ph.D. in Oceanography or related science required. Applicants should
