The Alutiiq Museum and Archaeological Repository announces the
publication of Craig Mishler's Black Ducks & Salmon Bellies: An
Ethnography of Old Harbor and Ouzinkie, Alaska.
Originally produced for the Alaska Department of Fish & Game, the new
book reflects Mishler's frequent visits to these Alutiiq communities as
a subsistence resource specialist over a ten-year period beginning with
the 1989 Exxon Valdez oil spill. Based on field notes but also including
extensive oral and archival history, the 256-page volume is illustrated
with numerous photos.
