OVERVIEW
The 3rd Northern Research Forum Open Meeting will take place in
Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, Canada, from 15-18 September 2004.
The event will be hosted by the Government of the Northwest Territories,
the City of Yellowknife, and Aurora College. The event will be organized
by the Northern Research Forum (NRF) in cooperation with the Canadian
Polar Commission.

MEETING SPECIFICS
The NRF Steering Committee hereby announces the following list of
thematic plenary sessions for the 3rd Open Meeting:
Plenary 1 - Perspectives of Appointed and Elected Officials
Plenary 2 - Governance, Resources, and Co-management
Plenary 3 - Cultural Resilience and the Tourist Economy
Plenary 4 - Security

There will also be a "Project Day" which will illustrate a number of
initiatives reflecting resilience and human change, not just in the
circumpolar world, which may have significant importance elsewhere in
our global society.

The precise choice of sub-themes for the plenary sessions, as well as
workshop topics to be included during Project Day, will be tentatively
open for general discussion until Monday, 29 February 2004. Please send
your ideas and comments concerning potential sub-themes and project day
topics for the 3rd Open Meeting to:

FUNDING ELIGIBILITY
Young researchers and young professionals, primarily graduate students
and those who have recently passed their degrees, are eligible to
receive full or partial travel funding from the NRF in order to
participate in the 3rd Open Meeting.

If interested, please apply by providing the NRF with the following:
(1) Brief statement of interest describing how your research and
professional or personal experiences relate to the particular themes or
projects which the 3rd Open Meeting will focus upon
(2) One page resume
(3) An abstract for a presentation to be considered for a Square Hour,
Plenary Session, or Project Session
