The Norwegian Polar Institute (NPI), Polar Climate Program, invites
applications for a permanent position as research scientist in
paleoceanography.

RESPONSIBILITIES
The position is part of NPI's interdisciplinary Polar Climate Program,
which studies ocean-atmosphere processes and interactions. The
successful applicant is expected to conduct research associated with
climate development and variability of the Arctic during the last
glacial-interglacial cycle and ocean-atmosphere coupling during
geological time scales. He/she will be responsible for retrieval,
anayses, and synthesis of paleoceanographic data on natural climate
variability.

QUALIFICATIONS
NPI seeks candidates with background in marine geology/paleoceanography
and special expertise in benthic foraminifera taxonomy and their
paleoceanographic application within Arctic environments. Expertise in
quantitative and statistical analysis is desirable. Applicants should
provide documentation for previous work related to Arctic/subarctic
paleoceanography published in international peer-reviewed journals.
Cruise experience from polar regions and a well developed professional
network is also an asset. The ideal candidate will have a strong
commitment to collaborative problem solving, and will contribute to
NPI's interdisciplinary research between the fields of oceanography,
paleo-oceanography, biology, and glaciology. It is also important that
the person who is appointed has the ability to work independently, has a
positive attitude, and is flexible. The applicant must hold a PhD and a
maximum 6 years post-doctorate experience.
