OVERVIEW
A nomination for a person to serve on the EVOS Scientific and Technical
Advisory Committee (STAC) is invited until Monday, 12 April 2004.
The STAC provides the primary scientific advice to the Executive
Director of the Exxon Valdez Oil Spill Trustee Council on the overall
Gulf of Alaska Ecosystem Monitoring and Research Program (GEM) and how
proposed and funded monitoring and research projects meet the mission
and goals of the program and address key questions and hypotheses.
Secondarily, the STAC may at times participate in and/or lead the peer
review process for proposals and project results.
SUBMISSION SPECIFICS
Please submit the following:
(1) Nominee's name, e-mail address, and telephone number
(2) Affiliation (see below)
(3) Types of expertise (see below)
(4) Locations of expertise (see below)
(5) One-page synopsis of nominee's breadth of expertise and perspective
and length of experience and leadership in areas important to the GEM
Program
(6) Indication that the person being nominated has been contacted by you
and has agreed to consider serving if called upon to do so

Affiliation: State which apply - Academic, Government, Non-Governmental
Organization (NGO), private, or a combination.

Types of expertise: Examples include modeling, resource management,
human activities and their potential ecological impacts, community-based
science programs, physical oceanography, chemical oceanography,
biological oceanography, geological oceanography, fisheries mammology,
ornithology, population biology, hydrology, chemistry, contaminants and
pollutants, and ecology.

Locations of Expertise: State which apply - Alaska coastal current,
offshore, intertidal and subtidal (nearshore), watersheds, or a
combination.

A short cv or resume is acceptable in lieu of a synopsis, however,
affiliation and types and localities of expertise must be included. It
is permissible to nominate oneself. STAC nominees cannot be principal
investigators for current EVOS projects.

SELECTION PROCEDURES
A nominating committee composed of seven members who are familiar with
the development and operation of regional monitoring programs similar to
GEM will recommend a list of persons and alternates fitting STAC
membership criteria for Trustee Council consideration. STAC members must
be approved by the Trustee Council.
