OVERVIEW
The Norwegian Polar Institute is now seeking a research director. The
successful candidate will be head of the Research Department, comprising
the fields of biodiversity, ecotoxicology, polar climate, and geological
mapping. The department has a young and creative staff of 44, of which
29 scientists have a Ph.D. Ten nations are represented within the
department. The various disciplines have their own group leaders who
report to the Research Director.

QUALIFICATIONS
We are looking for a person with initiative, who can lead well educated
people. He or she should be determined, result oriented, and able to
inspire his or her co-workers and stimulate collaboration. The
successful candidate will have higher education within research,
documented experience from administration and management, a good
national and international professional network, and a good ability to
communicate in Norwegian as well as English. Polar experience is vital
for the position. The research director is a member of the Institute's
management group and will have a strong influence on the Institute's
research profile. The director will participate in national and
international scientific collaboration and the development of Norwegian
polar research. An important task will be to increase external funding
for NPI science projects.

POSITION SPECIFICS
The position is for six years with the possibility of six years
continuation. After this, another position at the Institute may be
agreed upon. The salary will be based upon the qualifications of the
successful candidate, according to governmental standards (Norwegian
government position code 1111). The NPI wishes to even out the
representation of both sexes in leading positions and encourages
