The Norwegian Institute for Air Research (NILU) is an independent
research institute, established in 1969. The institute conducts
environmental research on all aspects of airborne pollution, atmospheric
transport, transformation, and deposition and is also involved in the
assessment of the effects of pollution on ecosystems, human health, and
materials. A main priority for NILU is to provide scientific facts on
the quantitative relationships between these factors, and at the same
time make the results available in user friendly manners for
decision-makers. NILU has a coordinating role in many international
projects.

The NILU intends to employ a researcher for one year at the Tromso
department. The position has the potential to be converted to a
permanent position. The main field of work will be organic analytical
chemistry related to persistent and less persistent organic pollutants.
The position is related to project management and administration as well
as analysis of a broad range of organic environmental pollutants.

Analysis of environmental pollutants is an important part of NILU's
involvement in national and international monitoring of health and
environmental effects of organic pollutants. In the frame of this work
we emphasize conditions in the Arctic, in different matrices (air,
sediments, water, food, human plasma, and other biological materials).

The candidate will have the following main tasks:
- Project management and administration
- Performance of of environmental pollutant analysis in trace
concentrations, chromatographic purification of samples, use of GC-ECD,
LC-UV, GC-LRMS, LC-MS and quantification
- Method development and optimization for new emerging compound groups
- Project acquisition

Desired qualifications:
- University degree in chemistry or adequate education
- PhD related to analytical environmental topics
- Knowledge of organic analysis with a focus on HPLC-MS and GC-MS
