Ice Coring and Drilling Services (ICDS), a unit of the Space Science and
Engineering Center (SSEC), University of Wisconsin - Madison, seeks to
hire a Mechanical Engineer.

Requirements:
- BS in Mechanical Engineering or related field;
- Minimum of 5 years experience in mechanical system design and analysis;
- Strong communication skills (both writing and verbal);
- Self motivated and goal oriented;
- Ability and experience in working within a diverse technical group
consisting of engineers, scientists, etc;
- Strong computer skills and familiarity with SolidWorks preferred;
- Willingness and ability to work occasionally in arctic or antarctic
regions for up to two to four months when necessary

Under guidance of senior engineering personnel, the successful candidate
would:
- Design mechanical, electro-mechanical, and thermal equipment for ice
coring and drilling applications;
- Coordinate procurement and fabrication of designed equipment;
- Develop test plans and assist in testing of ice drilling equipment;
- Provide technical support and guidance for field operation of equipment;
- Perform technical studies and prepare reports; and
- Maintain communications with ICDS team and its customers and suppliers.
