The Department of Arctic Biology at the University Centre in Svalbard
(UNIS) invites applications for a 3-year Ph.D. position in arctic marine
biology. The successful candidate will have a project that uses
Isfjorden/Kongsfjorden/Hornsund as a model system to study colonization

candidate will study transport of pelagic larvae linked to a ongoing
project at UNIS on ocean climate and circulation. Experience and skills
working in the field (scientific diving certificate, class S) is
preferred. In order to be considered for the position, the successful
candidate must hold a M.Sc. in a field related to the above-described
project. We encourage Norwegian students to apply.

Potential candidates are encouraged to contact faculty staff member
Associate Professor Jorgen Berge (jorgen.berge [at] unis.no) or Professor
Geir Johnsen (vmbigjoh [at] nt.ntnu.no) for further information and
discussion of the project prior to applying.

As part of the position, UNIS will supply:
- furnished, reasonably priced housing,
- free return passage and relocation expenses associated with
initiation and termination of the engagement, and
- free annual passage for the candidate to his/her home on the mainland.

The successful applicant will be based at UNIS in Longyearbyen. He/she
is expected to contribute actively in ongoing scientific activities at
the department, taking part in seminars and discussions with colleagues,
visitors, and students. UNIS also expects the Ph.D. student to take an
active part in the advancement of his/her field of research, and he/she
must also be willing to contribute to the development of UNIS in a more
general sense.

An expert committee appointed by the director of UNIS will evaluate the
qualifications of the applicants. The committee will review the
applications in detail. The appointment will be made by the board of
directors based on the recommendation from the director of UNIS.

To apply, please submit three copies of:
