The Labrador Institute of Memorial University invites applications for
the position of director. Located in Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Labrador,
the institute coordinates and fosters research in and about Labrador and
facilitates access of Labradorians to the University's educational
opportunities. The institute presently has a staff of three reporting to
the director. The institute has an advisory committee comprised of
members representing the different regions and peoples of Labrador.

The director will have a passionate interest and appreciation of
Labrador and the near Arctic together with an excellent understanding of
the regions within Labrador and its diverse cultures. Experience in
Labrador and with its diverse cultures would be considered an asset. He
or she will have a demonstrated record of leadership and administrative
achievement and be capable of working with Memorial faculty and staff in
helping to address the needs of Labradorians in the areas of higher
education, research, and personal and professional development. A
bachelors degree or equivalent qualification is required. An advanced
degree would be an asset. The director reports to the associate
vice-president (academic).

The largest university in Atlantic Canada, Memorial provides diverse
undergraduate and graduate opportunities for approximately 18,000 full
and part-time students at its campuses in St. Johns, Corner Brook, and
Harlow, UK. The university's 800 faculty and 1,400 staff provide an

the Labrador Institute are available from the Office of the Associate
Vice-President (Academic). The selection committee will begin to
consider applications as of Friday, 1 April 2005 and will continue to
accept applications up until the final deadline of Sunday, 15 May 2005.
The position will be filled effective Wednesday, 1 June 2005 or as soon
as possible thereafter.
