The American Geophysical Union (AGU) seeks applicants for the position
of Education and Public Outreach Manager. The position is fulltime and
based in Washington, D.C.
The successful candidate will work collaboratively to help AGU meet its
outreach goals, promoting literacy in the Earth and space sciences
through programs that support K-16 education, facilitating AGU member
participation in outreach, and integrating activities across AGU
outreach programs. Essential duties and responsibilities include:
- Developing and maintaining collaborative relationships and
programs with other scientific and education societies, government
agencies, and other organizations that have a core purpose of
supporting K-16 Earth and space sciences education.
- Working with AGU Development staff to obtain program funding.
Track and report results of funded programs. Collaborate with other
organizations on grant proposals for outside funding, as
appropriate.
- Serving as liaison to AGU Heads and Chairs Group and supporting
their efforts to strengthen Earth and space sciences departments at
the college and university level.
- Organizing and managing education-related events at AGU's Fall
Meeting, as well as integrated outreach events involving Public
Information and Public Affairs.
Applicants must have a Master's degree (PhD preferred) in a geoscience
discipline, and a minimum of 7-10 years' experience working with formal
and informal science education programs. Experience in science education
is required, as is current knowledge of issues related to K-12 and
undergraduate education, including standards, curriculum, other
classroom concerns.
