Current Research

Currently studying Early Devonian fossil fishes and paleoenvironments from fieldwork at localities on the Snake River, Yukon, and Anderson River, Northwest Territories, Canada with Hans-Peter Schultze; also conducting field and laboratory research on mid-Late Cretaceous fossil fishes, birds and paleoenvironments of the Western Interior Seaway in central Canada as well as at Lac des Bois in the Northwest Territories, also Late Cretaceous marine fishes from Devon Island, Nunavut. Recent paleontological projects include the description of a Pliocene freshwater perch from Strathcona Fjord, Ellesmere Island, Nunavut, and an Early Pleistocene whitefish from Bluefish Basin, Yukon Territory. Recent zooarchaeological projects include the Ice Patch fauna, Yukon, and whales from 16th C. Basque whaling stations along the Strait of Belle Isle, Labrador, including DNA comparisons to modern bowhead and right whale populations. Previous zooarchaeological work includes Thule sites in Nunavut and on historic sites from Sir John Franklin expedition camps and 19th C. Franklin Search camps in Nunavut, and the Greeley Expedition, Ellesmere Island.
