Calgary , Alberta T2L 2A7CanadaBioDr. M. P. (Mike) Cecile studied geology in Canada at the University of Waterloo and Carleton University completing an M. Sc. and a Ph.D. on Precambrian regional geology and stratigraphy. He joined the Geological Survey of Canada (GSC), Precambrian Division in Ottawa as a NSERC PDF in 1976 and moved from there to joint the GSC in Calgary as research scientist in 1977. As a scientist he was involved in numerous large projects stratigraphy, sedimentology , structural, and mapping projects. He initiated and led the Central Foreland NATMAP project from 1998-2000. He then was promoted to Head of the Regional Geoscience Subdivision at GSC Calgary, which he held from 1999-2001. He became Director of GSC Calgary in 2001. In 2006 he retired but returned to GSC Calgary as an Emeritus Scientist, a position he continues to hold at present. He has been President (1987-88), Vice President (1987), Director (1978-81) of the Canadian Society of Petroleum Geologist, a member of the Canadian Geoscience Council, member of numerous advisory and geoscience society committees, associate editor of a number of national and international journals. He has also participated in International Research Projects, mainly in Russia

Regional geologist with diverse interests and expertise, especially in mapping, stratigraphy, structural geology, sedimentology, facies analysis, volcanism. Regional geology of the Canadian Cordillera, Canadian Arctic and Arctic Islands, and the Precambrian Canadian Shield.
