Robert Newton

Bob directs Columbia’s Secondary School Field Research Program, engaging NYC public school students and teachers in field or laboratory research projects. Through the SSFRP, Bob has been involved in ecological research in the Piermont Marsh, near Lamont-Doherty, and in New York Harbor. Bob studied Mathematics at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York, and earned his PhD at Columbia University in Earth and Environmental Science. In an earlier life, he designed and managed information technology infrastructure projects. Bob grew up in and recently returned to Manhattan, where he lives with his wife, Alice. Their twin daughters, Karen and Jackie, work in ethical philosophy and government policy, respectively.
