2013 Logistics Workshop
Workshop on Future Directions for Arctic Research Logistics
7-9 October 2013
The NSF Arctic Research Support and Logistics (RSL) program funded a workshop on strategies and recommendations for arctic research support and logistics. The workshop was organized by ARCUS, with guidance from an Organizing Committee.
An online survey was circulated to gather input to help guide the development of the workshop agenda and topics.
If you have questions about the workshop, please contact: Helen Wiggins (helen [at] arcus [dot] org) or Kristina Creek (creek [at] arcus [dot] org) at ARCUS, Renée Crain (rcrain [at] nsf [dot] gov) or Pat Haggerty (phaggert [at] nsf [dot] gov) at the NSF RSL Program, or any of the Organizing Committee members listed below.
There are three major reports, all below, relevant to this workshop. NSF conducted two previous planning processes to solicit guidance on arctic research support and logistics needs, with resulting reports in 1997 and 2003. These reports had major impact on arctic research support; the 1997 report resulted in the creation of the NSF RSL program and the 2003 report catalyzed implementation of the Study of Environmental Arctic Change (SEARCH) and the Arctic Observing Network (AON). In 2011, CRREL completed an analysis of the recommendations in the 1997 and 2003 reports, and assessed which recommendations had been addressed. You'll also find the vision statement of the NSF RSL Program.
