The U.S. Permafrost Association (USPA) invites applications for travel grants to the American Geophysical Union (AGU) Fall Meeting. The AGU Fall Meeting will take place 12-16 December 2022 in Chicago, Illinois.

The USPA/Permafrost Young Researchers Network (PYRN) Educational Fund committee will be distributing travel grants of up to $1,000 depending on financial need, motivation for attending the AGU Fall Meeting, and relevance of the applicant’s poster or talk to permafrost science. Applicants that are USPA and PYRN student members will have a preference.

The application consists of the following:

  • Biographic information section below,
  • Question section (one page maximum) below,
  • A copy of full AGU abstract and session information for the Fall Meeting 2022, and
  • A curriculum vitae or resume.

Biographical information:

  • First and last name;
  • Institution;
  • Mailing address;
  • Phone number;
  • Email address;
  • Program (undergraduate, MS, PhD, post-doc);
  • Discipline (hydrology, biology, geomorphology, etc.);
  • Are you a USPA student member, or are you joining with this application; and
  • Are you a PRYN member.

Application questions (Not to exceed one page):

  • Why is your study important to permafrost science?
  • What is your motivation to attend the AGU Fall Meeting?
  • Do you have any current forms of financial assistance to attend the 2022 AGU Fall Conference? If so, please describe (such as plane fare covered by project funds, etc.).

Awardees will be required to send a picture and a short description (approximately 100 words) of themselves (e.g., what university you attend, what program you are enrolled in, what did you present on) and will be asked to volunteer for a shift at the USPA’s booth at the Fall Meeting.
